I confess that some of those newsletters were completed late at night while sipping on a glass of my favorite red wine. Somehow writing about Pilates and indulging in a nice Pinot seemed to compliment one another very well. While typing away on nutrition tips, yoga stretches for neck pain, or fitness at the office, I would pause and ponder the phrase Pilates and Pinot. It had a nice ring to it.
I wasn't the only one that thought so.
In addition to the commitment to train and participate in the events, fundraising is a large part of Team in Training. When my client, a leader for Team and Training, and I were chatting during her weekly session Pilates and Pinot came up, and she asked me if I'd be open to trying it as a fundraiser. Was I up for seeing my whimsical phrase come into fruition and help out a great cause? Heck ya! Sign me up! We mused over the idea of an hour long Pilates mat class followed by a wine tasting. Participants could work up a healthy sweat and then relax sipping some local tastings. How lovely... we just needed a location.
A year or so after our conversation I received an email from my client. She found a local wine cellar who was willing to host us in their barrel room for the Pilates session. Afterwards, a full tasting from their current selection. Perfect!
I loved that this idea came to life. I love even more that I was able to participate in a local fundraiser to support such important research. I hope this is the first of more Pilates and Pinot events (or Pilates and Zin, Pilates and Cab....you get the idea) to assist is a great cause, to gather community, or just to connect with friends on a weekend afternoon.
Lastly, I must say a healthy habit and a fun indulgence go so well together. Those bites of manchego cheese, crisp grapes and sips of the winery's 2009 Mourvèdre tasted GREAT after an hour mat class!
