1. Chase your dog around the house, yard, or park
The inspiration for this post was my sweet maltipoo, Lulu Lemon. Not getting much attention one morning and looking bored on her little doggie bed, I felt Lulu needed some exercise. A game of chase was soon established and had us both running around the house for fifteen minutes.
2. Jump rope
One of my all time favorite cardio exercise is jumping rope. It is easy, fun, cheap, and mobile. It is always surprising to me that this great form of exercise gets forgotten. Ease into it, jump roping gets challenging quickly!
3. Help a friend move.
It seems that my husband and I always know someone who is moving and b/c he has a truck we are often asked to help. (That is fine by us- we have recruited friends' help many times!) Packing, moving boxes and lifting furniture is a great way to do some good and get your heart rate up.
4. Home and Garden
It is really hard to get my hubby to attend a yoga class, join a gym, or lift weights. But he stays in shape by keeping active. Our latest purchase, a small 1957 house with a nice sized backyard, has kept him busy all summer whether it is in the garden, on the roof or in the garage!
5. Take the stairs, why don't ya?
We've heard it before because it is solid advice - the next time you have the option take the stairs. You are not only increasing your heart rate but also building muscle too. And who knows, you might just get to your destination more quickly!
