I do not know if these women read this blog, but I put their locations down should you ever be in one of their cities and be lucky enough to take a course or class from them. Should you have this experience I ask one thing...tell them Francine said "Hi...and thanks."
It is Cheri Clampett who I would love to see on the cover of Yoga Journal or Time Magazine! Her love for healing and helping people through yoga goes unparallelled. I met Cheri at just the right time. Just when my life had a whole lot of confusion and need some peace and direction. Cheri was and is a teacher, a mentor, and a blessing to me. She is truly a Master of her trade. I was touched when in 2005 she suggested to me to teach at the Rehabilitation Institute of Santa Barbara, my first Therapeutic Yoga teaching opportunity. I was just as honored when she attended my wedding. My favorite Cheri quote is "Don't worry so much Francine! It's yoga, not neuroscience!"
Monica Passaro, Pilates trainer and studio owner, My first Pilates Mentor, Uruguay, South America
Monica took a huge risk in letting me be her shadow. I was completely new to Pilates, was re-learning Spanish, and had nothing else to do! I was a Pilates leech! Nevertheless after I took my first Pilates class from her and was instantly hooked she agreed to take me on as intern to learn the Pilates method for four months when I lived in South America. I will never forget her kindness, education and generosity. Without her I might be on a completely different path...
Maura Riley, Fellow Pilates Colleague, my Pilates "Partner in Crime" and the-most-patient-instructor-on-earth, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
After completing my coursework at Body Arts and Science International (BASI) I had a fair bit of observation hours to complete. I was lucky enough to get started right away at Equilibrium Fitness in La Verne, CA. From the first day Phyllis Douglas, the intuitive owner, gave me some great advice. "You'll want to watch Maura." Done and done. Maura's technique and attention to detail was (and still is) unparallelled to anyone I co-taught with. Need proof? Look at her clients - some of the most efficient Pilates movers I have observed. Best of all, Maura has a kind, loving soul and I feel honored to call her a colleague and friend. Miss you girl!!!!
Karen Clippinger, MS Exercise Science, author, faculty at Cal State Long Beach and Pilates Master Trainer, Long Beach, CA
I can not admit that I know Karen Clippinger personally, but I have taken more than one Pilates course from her. Karen is truly my academic inspiration and her role in both the Cal State system and the Pilates world positively influenced my decision to pursue my masters. Karen, as faculty member of BASI, hosts the only University based Pilates program in California (maybe even the nation?). Wouldn't I love to follow in her footsteps!
Carolyne Anthony, Found of Center for Women's Fitness, Pre/Postnatal Pilates Specialist, World Traveler Extraordinaire, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Carolyne already knows that right when I met her in 2009 I was hooked on her concentration on women's health in the Pilates world. I have so much respect for her mission of "helping women maintain healthy bodies throughout every stage of life". Carolyne's programs speak to me so clearly but on my own I don't think I would have been able to formulate into an actual course. Her passion and conviction is evident in her trainings as well as her respect and admiration for the women (and men) she works with. Recently Carolyne asked me to be part of international faculty, and I am so humbled and honored that I have to pinch myself. "Terima kasih", thank you, Carolyne, you know that this opportunity means so much to me.
And there you have it. I could add more and more. But as promised, I will stop. I look forward to meeting the acquaintance of more "fabulous females" as I grow and evolve.
What about you? Do you have a mentor who inspires?
